Backend Engineer

Storyboard mission is to make the workplace more engaging and collaborative through the power of audio.

Today, we deliver a fast growing collaboration tool that allows teams to communicate and collaborate through on-demand, podcast-like audio in their workplace. We’re looking for passionate teammates to build a platform where teams globally will come to connect, no matter their location or time zone.

Who are we, and what are we building?

Storyboard is an Enterprise collaboration platform that is headquartered in Santa Monica, CA (more on that later). Since launching in late 2019, we’ve grown to serve over 2,000 companies globally who have launched their own Storyboard channels.

To expand our team and platform, we recently announced our Seed round of funding which was backed by top investors like CRV, the Slack Fund, and Operator Partners. You can read CRV’s blog post on why they invested here or listen to our podcast here.

Who are we looking for?

We’re searching for a backend engineer who will help stand up a best-in-class platform for audio that will be used globally. Here are the details on our ideal candidate, who would be:

  • Extremely comfortable working in multiplexed command line environments across multiple cloud hosts, operating systems, and workflows.
  • Well-versed in database best-practices, especially Postgres, MongoDB, and LevelDB.
  • Extensive experience working with message broker middleware such as RabbitMQ, AWS Kinesis, or ZeroMQ.
  • Experience working with free and open source software to analyze and process media files and associated metadata.
  • Professionally experienced writing code in one system-level language (i.e., C, C++, Rust, Java)
  • Professionally experienced writing code in one scripting language (i.e., Python, Node.js, Golang) or a functional programming language (i.e., Haskell, Erlang/Elixir, OCaml).
  • Extensive background with at least one major cloud service provider such as AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean, Google Cloud Platform, etc.
  • Experience working with and implementing edge-cached media distribution via content delivery networks such as Akamai, Cloudflare, Limelight Networks.

Storyboard offers Remote and Los Angeles-based Roles

Storyboard is primarily based in Los Angeles, CA but the ethos of our company is that employees should be able to collaborate and work together from anywhere. As such, this role is open to remote employees based in the United States.

It is preferable to be able to work with the PT time zone for collaborative purposes, but we're eager to hear from you if this vision may match your interests.
